What about food?

Eating is symbolic, like all things here. Also, like all things, its 'default setting' is ego, but can be used by Spirit to help us wake up.

A seeming 'fact' of life is that we must consume life to maintain life. Taking lives in order to keep our own. Stories of vampires come to mind when it's put this way, and yet it's undeniable. Even vegetarians are taking lives.

A basic tenet in the separation belief is that someone must lose. If we're separate beings, we can't all 'win' all the time. Life centered in separation means that we must take life to have life. This is symbolic of the life we think we've stolen from God by making separate egos.

Spirit's interpretation is that life is only where God created it, not elsewhere. In Oneness, life is not differentiated and subdivided, so there is no taking of life. And, of course, life in God is eternal, not temporal as it seems to be here.
