Does it matter what we believe?
Well, it matters while you're on earth. If you don't believe in gravity, you're not going to be here too long. If you don't believe in food, you won't last. If you don't believe in air, you're probably already unconscious!
Beliefs are simply useful or not. Don't get hung up on truth, or proving your beliefs to others. Just ASK yourself if they're useful. Do they help you or hinder you? If beliefs are hinderances, change them as quickly as you can.
Some belief systems are more efficient than others. Just as there are more optimal ways to publish words, do laundry, and cook a meal, there are also more optimal ways to get back to Truth. The quicker you come to accept Non-duality, the quicker you'll be back at peace.
Here's an exercise for you: Next time you encounter a belief that makes you uncomfortable (to any extent) instead of quickly ejecting the belief from your mind, consider it. You don't have to adopt it, just consider it. Spend five or ten minutes with it. Read up on it. Do some research. Take some quiet time just to think about it. Research has shown that we are very fast to filter out points of view that we think we don't agree with. The more diversity in the ideas you consider, the faster you will find the belief system that will be the most optimal for you in your current situation.
Does that matter? Ultimately, no. But here and now, of course it does. Each time you meet a person whose life just isn't working, s/he is carrying a belief system that is no longer appropriate. Don't be one of those people. If a belief isn't helpful, jettison it as soon as you're able.
