Why do I feel alone in the universe?

The ego (separate self) wants to be alone. Well, it wants togetherness on its own terms. Relationships are okay, as long as boundaries are agreed upon. Physical proximity works for a while, but soon we have the realization that, "I need my space."

ASK yourself if a total lack of mental privacy is okay with you. Could you live with every person knowing your every thought? Of course not. Our individuality would cease to exist. And this is what we want to keep. Oneness is what we're fleeing from. Human life represents the attempt to compromise oneness and separateness, to find some kind of acceptable balance between the two. Each human being tries to find this, and fails. There is no compromise between oneness and separateness, because there can be no compromise between truth and illusion. Whether we like it or not, Oneness is Reality.

We can only find peace when we give up our sense of isolation. Of course, to give up isolation is to give up individuality, too. Is this bad news? Is it good news? Can you tell the difference between bad news and good news?
